Las Vegas Airport

The airport that services Las Vegas is called McCarran International airport (LAS). Due to the popularity of Las Vegas as a tourist destination McCarran International is one the busiest airports in the world. In fact last year it was ranked as the fifth busiest airport in the world with regard to take-offs and landings. It is large, with a total of 92 different gates and 4 runways, but it is a clean and efficient airport with fast travel links to the various areas.

As you may expect from a place like Vegas, as soon as you get off the plane you will confronted with numerous billboards adverting the latest shows and attractions. You may have thought this was just a rumour but yes, they do have slot machines in the airport. So if you lost your shirt at the gaming tables you have one last chance to strike it lucky with one of the 1,200 airport slot machines.

The airport is situated near The Strip, around 2 km from the south end, so there are a number of different options for getting to you hotel. There are regular buses from the airport to both downtown and the strip. They are the cheapest option but if you have had a long flight you may not want to que up and take the long route to your hotel. The faster option is to get a taxi and even a trip to the North end of the Strip will not cost too much.

If you are planning on driving and seeing more of Nevada than just Vegas, you can hire a car directly from the airport. There are 11 car hire companies based at McCarran airport so picking up a car is usually no problem. If you have specific requirements though it may be best to book to avoid disappointment.

There are no hotels at the airport due to the fact that it is so close to The Strip. Two of the hotels nearest to the airport are the Tropicana and the MGM Grand. Some hotels offer a shuttle service to and from the airport. It may be worth asking about this when you book although this service is rarely included in the room price.
