History

The site was first occupied by the Bonanza Hotel and Casino which opened in July 1963. It was later renamed to the New Bonanza Hotel and Casino shortly before construction on the MGM Grand began. The 43 acre (174 km²) site opened in 1973 as the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino with 2,084 rooms, the largest hotel in the world at that time. Kirk Kerkorian was the owner and the hotel had a Los Angeles movie theme when it opened.

The hotel was later sold in 1985 to Bally Entertainment Corporation, and the property's name was changed to Bally's. The MGM Grand name was transferred to the former Marina Hotel, now known as the MGM Grand Las Vegas. Bally's was later taken over by the Hilton Corporation. In 1998, Hilton spun off its casino holdings into a new company, Park Place Entertainment, later known as Caesars Entertainment. That company merged with Harrah's Entertainment in 2003.

Recent Reviews

"The room was great. We were told the north tower was recently remodeled and it was very nice. I thourougly enjoyed the view. The hotel was great, elevators were quick however there is quite a long wait for the buffet.  Bally's is centrally located and one can easily access either the bus or the monorail. There is a wonderful little pastry shop next in the walk between Bally's and Paris. TRY IT! yum!"

"We stayed at Bally's based on recommendations from a co-worker. We had to wait an hour for a king size room. They did have two queens available, but that's not what we wanted. The room was very nice. It was in the north tower. The bar in the casino was always hoppin. The entertainment was still going when we came in at 1:30am. I enjoyed gambling there as much as anywhere. They didn't provide much in the area of coupons. Many of the ones they gave us had already expired. The pool is a very long walk from the rooms. They had a couple of reasonable priced places to eat in there forum shops area. We thought everything else there was overpriced. The best advantage is having the monorail station behind the hotel. That saved us a lot of walking and cab fair."
